I. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY & ACADEMIC STANDING
- Applicant must be a student at Trent University, full-time, part-time, undergraduate, graduate
- Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 (60.0%)
- Following acceptance onto the team responders must provide a vulnerable sector police check
II. PHYSICAL FITNESS
- Applicant must be able to lift and carry a fully stocked medic pack containing an oxygen cylinder pressurized to no less than 2,000psi (413L) of fresh gas
- Applicants that suffer from severe medical disorders or chronic diseases that could become exacerbated with strenuous exercise or while under emotional/psychological stress are advised against participating in the tryouts process
- Following acceptance onto the team responders must provide a negative two-step tuberculosis test
III. PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
- All applicants must complete a set of at least 4 emergency simulations
- Following a training session, applicants must demonstrate proficiency with the identification and subsequent treatment of some of the following life-threatening emergencies:
- Cardiac Arrest
- Choking & Respiratory Arrest
- Deadly bleeds
- Anaphylaxis and EpiPen Administration
IV. WRITTEN THEORY ASSESSMENT
- Applicant must write the SFA-HCP exam at RedCross Standard issued at the close of the standard first-aid course and achieve a grade of 80% or higher to be considered successful
V. PERTINENT DEADLINES
