How do I get TUEFRT to attend to an emergency?
Calling our emergency number (705-748-1333) will dispatch TUEFRT.
When can I call TUEFRT?
You can call TUEFRT 24/7 throughout the academic year (excluding reading weeks). You will get notifications on our social media pages when we go off-call and when we return on-call.
Where can TUEFRT respond to?
TUEFRT responds to all calls on the Symons campus, including the annexes and Traill College
What can I call TUEFRT for?
You can call TUEFRT for any injury or medical emergency. We respond to all calls regardless of the severity.
What happens when I call TUEFRT?
When you call 705-748-1333, a member of campus security will answer your call and gather some important information. They will then radio TUEFRT and relay the information to us. At least 2, and usually 3 responders are on call at all times. We will make our way to your location, introduce ourselves, and start helping out! Our response time is usually between 2-5 minutes, but can vary depending on the call location and where the responders are when they get the call.
I have no prior First Aid experience. Can I still join TUEFRT?
Yes! We will teach you everything you need to know during the tryout weekend! If you make the team, you will be certified in SFA (Standard First Aid) and CPR-HCP. Later, you will receive certification in Emergency First Responder. All of this training is covered by the team and there are no costs associated with joining. For more information, see our "Join Us" page or email us at email@example.com.
What is the time commitment for each TUEFRT responder?
It is expected that each member be available to be on-call once a week as well as be able to attend monthly training sessions. Members are scheduled according to their provided availability. However while on-call, members can: attend classes, do other activities or remain in our office. They are expected to be able to immediately respond if dispatched. If they can not leave certain classes or are unavailable during a certain time (i.e Labs) they are expected to indicate their unavailability.
Are responders paid for their time?
No, all members are volunteers and are not compensated for their service. However; all certifications, uniforms, and other responder development opportunities are provided to the team. Some shifts such as the overnight and the weekend on-call team receives a $12 meal.
