Want to be a responder?

Volunteer on Symons Campus

Come Join Us at our Annual Tryouts!

**No experience or First Aid/CPR training is necessary!**
**This year our tryouts will be different, the process will be explained in an email to our applicants**

Tryouts occur each September and January. If you make the team, you will be certified in SFA (Standard First Aid) and CPR-HCP. Later, you will receive your Emergency First Responder certification which will then allow you to complete the Emergency Medical Responder certification, the highest level certification for a regular civilian. All of this training is covered by the team and there are no costs associated with joining.

In preparation for tryouts, please complete the "Applicant Information Form" under the Join Us tab.

Applications open July before the academic year, please apply anytime before the application deadline March 12 at 2359 (11:59 pm) and then we will email you inviting you to try-outs March 20-21, 27-28.

Prior to the tryout weekend you will be required to attend an interview with two executive members lasting 15 minutes long.

On the Friday night of the try-out weekend, you will be taught a condensed version of basic lifesaving skills and tested on those skills through various emergency simulations. If you show the ability to grasp these concepts and pass these simulations, you will be invited back for the second phase of tryouts. On Saturday and Sunday, you will participate in a Standard First Aid course and multiple simulations. The simulations that occur on Saturday and Sunday will test your knowledge on what has been taught in the SFA course that day as well as calls that you may possibly encounter while on the team. After you have completed all requirements on Saturday and Sunday, the second cut will occur. All those who pass the admission requirements will be offered a position on TUEFRT.

In the simulations, we are looking for communication between yourself and your partner, communication between yourself and the patient, critical thinking, and ability to work in stressful situations with a professional manner. The weekend will be filled with learning, excitement and simulations which will prepare you to be on call with us.

If you would like more information or have any questions, feel free to send us an email at
